"The Father and the Son"- written by Leigh Riches

About 4,000 years ago there was a Father and a Son.

One morning the Father and Son rose early and set off on a journey.

The Father’s purpose that day was to Sacrifice his son.

The Father must have been solemn and quiet as he considered what was to happen to his son very shortly.

As the son rode on a donkey to the place where he would be sacrificed he was excited and nervous, but he didn’t know that it was he, that was going to be the sacrifice.

As they neared the place where the Son was to be sacrificed, the Son carried some wood in his arms, the wood that would be used to sacrifice him on.

The Son was bound to the wood, a knife was raised and the son was about to be sacrificed, ....But God turned to the father and said “stop.... don’t kill the son”. Instead God provided a lamb, that would die in the son’s place as a sacrifice that day. The Father’s name was Abraham, the Son’s name was Isaac.

About 2,000 years later there was another Father and Son.

One morning the Father watched the Son rise early and set off on a journey.

The Fathers purpose that day was to Sacrifice His son.

The Son had ridden on a donkey
only a week before, to the city where He would be sacrificed. But this day , the Son was solemn and quiet, as He knew that it was He that was going to be the sacrifice.

As they neared the place where the Son was to be sacrificed, the Son carried some wood upon his back in the form of a cross. The wooden cross that would be used to sacrifice Him on.

The Son was bound and nailed to the wooden cross, and as the Cross was raised and the Son was about to be sacrificed.... God turned away, and allowed the Son... HIS SON...to die as a sacrifice that day. The Son’s name was Jesus and he was to be the sacrificial lamb that day.

About 2,000 years later again (today) we still celebrate that sacrifice. when the punishment should have been ours, God sacrificed a lamb - His own Son Jesus Christ - in our place.

Thankfully, that sacrifice didn’t stay dead on that cross, but rose again three days later. The Son who was sacrificed is now alive and available to all who confess their sins and beleive on His name.
