The Call

Note:
This script calls for a video projector, and the slides contained in the accompanying
.pdf file of 'thought bubbles' to be projected behind the character at the appropriate
time. The main character is positioned underneath the projection screen so that
the 'though bubbles' appear just above his head.
- alternately the 'thought bubbles' could be spoken onto cassette tape before-hand
and the audio played at the appropriate time.
The Call
Man Thanks for coming in Steve, we're glad you responded to our call.
Steve Call.... What call? [slide - 1]
Man The Call - to be involved in missions, that's why you're here right?
Steve I'm not sure I follow....
Man According to our records, when the visiting missionary at your church made known
the need for workers, you responded with "Here am I, Send me to the nations, as an
Ambassador for You."
Steve What........ Oh..... no.... That's a song.... I was singing a song.... "here
am I..."
Man Oh, you sing too (ticks paper) ...good. Now, let's talk about where you'd like
to go. You mentioned that you were willing to go anywhere right!
Steve Well..... that was in the song too.....
Man But you meant anywhere...
Steve ...... Yeah.... [Slide 2]
Man That's great. Can I bounce a few countries off you which really need to be reached
for Christ and see what you think....
Steve ..... Sure.... [slide 3"please don't be Africa"]
Man How about Africa?
Steve [slide 4 "Ahhhhhh"] umm.... anywhere else???
Man Of course we do have openings in China - What do you think of when I mention China?
Steve [slide 5] (shakes head) Umm..... I guess I was thinking of .... Anywhere....
as long as it was a little closer to home.
Man Oh... Ok, Well... what if we settle some other issues first then. ... You understand
that you won't be generating any income of your own, but you'll be relying on support
from your home church Right? - What do you think of that??
Steve [Slide 6] Maybe somewhere that isn't too ..... poor would be better then.
Man (thinking) Somewhere Close to home....and not too....poor.... - We've got a position
for a worker in New Zealand - how does that sound?
Steve [Slide 7] .... Maybe I'd better stick to Australia.
Man Hmm..... Oh look, we've got a position in one of our rural Australian offices
helping with translation work.... it's a 4 year posting.
Steve [slide 8] ... Have you got anything here in Adelaide.... That.... well, that
involves umm.... coming to church on Sundays..... um..... lots of fellowship.....
and umm.... giving just enough time and money so that I can still live comfortably?
Man (checking).... hmmm.... well, according to my records,.... a vacancy in that
exact
position supposedly
became available at the precise time you came in here....
Steve EXCELLENT! - ..... That's my call.... I'll take it (Shakes hand and exits)
