Sow & Reap dramas "The Rumour" and "The Wallet"
written by Leigh Riches, based on a concept by Lyndon Beasy & Leigh Riches

Sow & Reap
NOTE:
There are two dramas here, both with the same message - what we sow, we will reap
- you would obviusly only perform one of them - I did the first one. The dramas are
like the 'sliding doors' movie concept (although I hadn't seen the movie when they
were written) which means that part1b
is the outcome of part 1a
, and part 2b
is the outcome of part 2a.
Part 1a is done first from a 'freeze' position and also finishes with a 'freeze'...
then the actor returns to the exact position on stage that he began part1a
and freezes, then goes into part 2b.
This continues with 1b & 2b. confusing?... not really it's just like two different
scenarios based on the way we choose to react to our circumstances.
The Rumour
(set in an office start from 'frozen' position - look at papers in folder, look at
watch)
Part 1a.
"Man, that Grant Chapman from 'accounts' .... I can't believe him. Thinks he can get
away with spreading rumors about me around the office. Unbelievable..... So I confront
him.. right.... and he says 'Yeah, look I'm really sorry... I misunderstood what
someone told me and that's how it got started' - he sounded as though he expected me
to forgive him - just because he knows I'm a Christian. (laughs)....(then thinks....)
Although I suppose that's what God would want me to do.....(sighs).... yeah... I
think I'd better find him again.....
(start from 'frozen' position - look at papers in folder, look at watch)
Part 2a.
(laughs)....well it's not
going to happen..... I'm sick of everyone thinking they can say what they like about
me 'cause they think I won't strike back, well they're wrong. I think a few carefully worded
rumors of my own and an inter-office email might do the trick..... Yeah.....He's
gonna be sorry.

(enter with cup of coffee, drink, then speak)
Part 1b.
Well, I'm glad I went to see Grant. Turns out he's not such a bad guy after all. He
said he was really sorry again,... and again... So I said 'look that's OK - your
forgiven!' and then he said 'Seriously I am really sorry,... I've heard you were
a Christian but I didn't expect you to forgive me just like that - you actually practice what
you believe' - he said. You know, there might be opportunity to share with him more.
And you know, ... the other funny thing, now people know the truth, they've stopped
with the old rumours and have started saying nice things about me - Who would have though
that it could end up this way!
(enter with cup of coffee, drink, then speak)
Part 2b.
(glumly) Well, my day's gone from bad to worse....they traced those rumours about
Grant back to me, and the email accidentally got through to management....I don't
think I've made matters any better. And now the whole storey's gone around the office
about me being a liar and a back stabber, only this time the rumour's true - and it doesn't
paint me in a very good light, especially to those who know I'm a Christian. Boy...
who would have though that it could end up this way!
The Wallet
Part 1a.
(In a shopping centre)
"See now, that I don't understand. That guys got his wallet hanging out of his jacket
pocket like that, just waiting to fall out to the fortune of someone else....(pause)
see.... there it goes. (pause) no-one's seen it ... it's just sitting there, anyone
could just pick it up and no-one would know. (waits, then quickly goes and picks it
up) (looks inside)..... I guess I should get this back to him. I know how I'd feel
if it was me, I'd better go and find him."
Part 2a
.
On the other hand,
It would hurt to keep just a little of the cash It could be my reward for being honest!...... I could tell him that's how I found it. He'd never know, I'd better go and find
him.
Part 1b
.
"Well,..... I gave it to him, you should have seen his face! Couldn't believe someone
could be that honest. I told him I was a Christian and believe that's what God would
want me to do, and well,.... I thought he'd just laugh but he actually asked me about my church and said he might come along. He said if the bible teaches honesty and
stuff like that, then maybe there's something in it after all. Who would have though
that a little thing like this could end up this way - he even invited me round for
lunch next week.
part 2b.
"Well,.....I gave it to him... He was happy at first, until he saw some cash missing.
I explained to him that it probably fell out, and he almost bought it..... until
his friend came up behind me and told him he'd seen everything - including me taking
the money out. Then it turns out that the friend works for the same company as me and
even knew that I'm a Christian. He said if that's what they teach people at my church
then he's not missing out on anything, and then he said he'd discuss the situation
with my boss..... Who would have though that a little thing like this could end up this
way - I've really messed things up for myself.
